The latest series of Romeo Melikyan's works is exceptional. It is as though Romeo were holding a mirror up to the world. These paintings are nothing other than the image of our present-day reality. At a time when unceasing wars, natural upheavals and chaotic situations are intensifying across the world, I often find myself returning to Romeo's work. What is remarkable is that these are works holding an inexpressible wealth of emotion, tension and varied sensation — works with an inner pulse — and yet at the same time they convey a strange calm and serenity. Romeo Melikyan paints harmony into our disharmonious life. Within Armenian reality generally, within Armenian fine art, Romeo is one of the few artists who creates with a European spirit, style and way of thinking. I often think that if one day I ever mount an exhibition in these parts — and that is a very realistic thought — one of them will certainly be Romeo's. And I am confident it will succeed and hold people's interest, because it is so timely, so contemporary, so fresh... It is art attuned to the pulse of the world.
